Warbirds | Early Spitfire Watts Prop
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
Vasko Barbic of Warbirds Productions has just released a number of new items that may be of interest to the large scale model builder. The first item up for review is described as a Spitfire Prototype and Very Early Mk I Wooden Propeller, item number 3237. Of the two early Spitfire propellers, Weybridge and Watts, this appears to be the less common Watts propeller as it lacks the notch in the blade by the spinner.
The replacement propeller is perfectly cast in a light gray resin. A very fine surface detail is neatly scribed onto the spinner. Light sanding will be required to clear up the minor flash noticed on the leading edge of the prop blades. The review sample has a small air bubble in one blade, but I am sure that it can be easily filled and repaired.
As with all of Warbirds resin items that have been released to date, I recommend this to all those with a passing interest in the Supermarine Spitfire. Could this mean that a 1/32nd scale Spitfire Prototype conversion is in the works? We will have to wait and see. Please check your references carefully as this type of propeller was used only on the prototype and very early production batches.
Review sample compliments of Warbirds Productions.
