Contact Resine | P-51 Mustang wheels in 1/24 scale
Reviewed by Brad Hagen
Contact Resine has come to the rescue of the 1/24 fans with their release of these resin cast wheels for the P-51 Mustang.
This set comes in a sturdy clear box and comes with both mains and a tail wheel. The wheels are beautifully cast in a light tan resin and have almost no cleanup to do, all that will be required is to either cut off or break off the tiny casting stub which was thoughtfully put on the bottom of the tire to keep clean up as simple as possible and to not damage the tire.
The wheels have the weighted down look and for a change it has a subtle look instead of looking like a flat tire. The tread looks very accurate compared to the pictures I looked at and is lightly molded. The hub is molded on so you will need to paint inside the slots to give it some depth as you could normally see into the hub. The rear of the wheel is nicely cast with the holes like on the Mustang pictures and the Mustangs I have seen. There is a hollowed spot for the axle but since I don't have any 1/24 Mustang gear I couldn't check the depth, it does look pretty deep so either it could be drilled out a little deeper or the axle could be shortened a little if needed. It is a nice touch to have that "pre drilled" as it will solve the complications of making sure you have the hole you drilled dead center.
In the photo I compare the resin wheels with a set of 1/24 Airfix Mustang rubber tires. As can be seen the resin wheels are a huge improvement in both look and accuracy and will be a big improvement to your large scale Mustang.
