Warbirds | 1/24 Spitfire Vb Seat
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
I am sure that many of you are aware that Trumpeter supplies a very inaccurate seat in their 1/24th scale Spitfire Vb. It was copied from a seat installed in a Spitfire at the Battle of Britain Museum. To correct this inaccuracy, Vasko Barbic of Warbirds Productions has just released a new resin seat.
This very simple set consists of only two pieces. There is a new seat and its associated mounting brackets. No instructions are supplied. They are not required as these items are designed as direct replacements for the kit parts.
The overall quality of the casting is superb, as we have come to expect from Warbirds Productions. Close examination reveals no air bubbles or flash in either part. The resin parts also compare favorably to sketches in Aero Detail's book on the Supermarine Spitfire. No harnesses are molded onto the seat, my personal preference, so modelers will have to create their own. The seat pan and back support are perfectly duplicated. Additional details should be added to the seat as specified in the Trumpeter instructions using the kit parts. An effective wash and drybrushing should really highlight this area in your finished model.
Unfortunately, the seat supplied by Trumpeter is a very poor representation of the item found in an operational Spitfire. Modelers looking for an accurate Spitfire cockpit need look no further than Warbirds Productions for their needs. I strongly recommend this new seat without hesitation.
Review sample compliments of Warbirds Productions.
