Zactomodels | Su-27 Corrected Intakes
Reviewed by Jay Laverty
This will be plainly obvious to anyone who has any of the previous detail sets released by Chris Wilson of Zactomodels for the Trumpeter Su-27B, but the craftsmanship executed with these intakes is beyond compare.
Clearly Chris is a man dedicated to his craft, and this is immediately apparent as soon as the plain white box the intakes are shipped in is opened. Safely tucked into a vac form holder the presentation instantly oozes professionalism, and quality.
Removing the crisply and cleanly cast resin parts from their holder, a feeling of envy quickly arises, as I find myself in awe at the thoroughness of the detail and its finesse. The instructions are clear, concise and well written and leave no questions as to the progress of assembly and the placement of parts. There is a small amount of cutting, filing and removing of kits parts involved, but in my opinion there is nothing that is beyond the scope of all but the most novice of builders, and I dare say I think that even I shall be able to manage this one.
I feel that the casting stubs are easily identifiable and thus will be no problem to remove, and the fact that a quick test pull reveals that they can be snapped off (Not recommended for removing them, it was just a test on my part. There would be an extreme danger of cracking the resin). Therefore cutting them away with a scalpel or a panel scriber will be sufficient.
With plenty of detail represented inside and outside of the intakes, these are a seriously well done, and very welcome addition to the range of sets brought to us by Zactomodels for the ubiquitous Trumpeter Flanker, and I am thrilled to have them. The fact that the F.O.D. guards can be positioned in the opened or closed position is another subtle and appreciated feature in the set.
Yet again, another winner from Chris Wilson, and I am now anxiously awaiting the A-7 set he is doing for the Trumpeter kits of the Corsair, as we can rest safely assured these will be a masterpiece to behold when they make an appearance as well.
Highly Recommended. www.zactomodels.com.
