Scale Aircraft Conversions | F-105 Main Landing gear in 1/32nd Scale
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
This is a review of the recently released 1/32nd scale landing gear for the Trumpeter F-105 from Scale Aircraft Conversions. As the landing gear is the same for the F-105 D and G, these struts will fit either Trumpeter kit.
The landing gear is shipped in a small plastic bag affixed to cardboard for support. Scale Aircraft attaches the struts to the cardboard with wax to prevent damage. It is nice to see some consideration given to preventing damage to small parts while in transit.
The landing gear is cast in white metal. They appear to be very sturdy and are a major improvement to the kits plastic items. Each strut is designed to be a direct replacement for the Trumpeter main gear identified as I34 and I35. Additional detailing items from Trumpeter are simply glued into position on these aftermarket items. Only minor effort is required to remove a small casting seam on the replacement strut.
The Trumpeter F-105 is a large and very heavy model. Many modelers have raised concerns about the kits plastic strut/axle combination and the ability to support the completed model. White metal landing gear should go a long way in relieving those concerns. I recommend this white metal gear to anyone wishing to ensure the sturdiness of their completed model.
