Eagle Editions has released two new 1/32nd decals for the Hasegawa Bf 109 G-10. This is a review of the first decal sheet. Markings are supplied for four different Bf 109G-10s covering a broad spectrum of schemes.
The instructions include four airbrushed side profiles by leading artist Tom Tullis. Each scheme is very colorful and makes the instruction sheets a very valuable reference source. In addition to the side profiles, upper views provide complete camouflage and decal placement directions. Scrap views identify the proper location for crosses on the lower wings. Complete stencil instructions are included. The instructions state that additional references should be consulted for total accuracy with the stencils.
Jerry Crandall provides extensive text for each of the four aircraft. Many features about each individual aircraft are identified. For example, items such as the type of upper wing bulges and tail wheels are explained in full. Complete painting and markings instructions are included for each aircraft.
The first option is "Yellow 4" of II./JG 52. This aircraft was formerly from KG(J) 6 and surrendered at Salzburg at the end of the war. The aircraft was finished in a complex pattern of RLM 74/75/76/81/83. It was finished with a black and red checkerboard fuselage band. The rear fuselage band is reversed to the aircraft found on EC#81-32 reviewed elsewhere on LSP. A color photo in Jerry Crandall's collection serves as the reference for this scheme.
"Yellow 5" is the Bf 109 G-10 flown by Fw Horst Petzschler. The aircraft was finished RLM 75/76/83. The last four digits of the W. Nr. was applied to the tail. Modelers should note that this aircraft is fitted with small upper wing bulges, not the larger ones seen in the upper profile view.
"White 44" was a night attack aircraft with II./NJG 11. This Bf 109 was modified from a G-6 to a G-10. The scheme is overall RLM 76.
The last Bf 109G-10 is "Green 4" from II./JG 300. The aircraft is finished RLM 75/76/83. RLM 74 could also replace the RLM 83 as identified in the instructions.
A number of references were used in the creation of this decal sheet. They are listed as:
- The Luftwaffe in Sweden 1939-1945 (Monogram Aviation Publications)
- EagleFiles #3 Augsburg's Last Eagles (Eagle Editions)
- Broken Eagles Number 2 (Fighter Pictorials)
The decals are printed over two pages. They are printed by Microscale and appear thin and in perfect register. Stencils are included. Unfortunately, there are not enough decals to complete all four schemes.
Late war German aircraft continue to fascinate historians and modelers alike. While much has bean learned, there is still plenty to uncover. It is for this reason that I am sure these new decals from Eagle Editions will prove to be very popular.
Review Sample Compliments of Eagle Editions.
