Eagle Editions has released the first of a number of new EagleCals markings for the Hasegawa Bf 109K-4 in 1/32nd scale. In this review, we will have a closer look at EC#62.
The modeler is provided with four colorful schemes. The first K-4 is "Red 1" operated by 10./JG 27. This aircraft was previously identified as Yellow 1. The pilot and W.Nr. are unknown. The aircraft is finished in an RLM 76/81/83 scheme with RLM 25 Green Reich Defense Band.
The next aircraft is "Blue 16" of 12./JG 27. Another K-4 with the pilot and W.Nr. unknown. It is finished in an RLM 76/75/83 pattern. This scheme is similar to the above with an RLM 25 Green Reich Defense Band.
Another aircraft from 10./JG 27, "Red 7 was previously considered "Blue 7" of 12./JG 27. Note: Both decal options are included. This aircraft is finished in an RLM 76/81/83 camouflage scheme. The Reich Defense Band is RLM 25 Green.
The last aircraft on this sheet is "Green 4" of Stab JG 52. Possibly Hermann Graf's aircraft, W.Nr 332526 is decorated with a striking red tulip nose and is finished RLM 76/75/83.
The instructions take a departure from earlier Dora sheets. They follow a four-page fold out format. Photographs of the subject aircraft are not included, however, extensive references from five different sources are identified. A single side profile with associated top and bottom views are supplied, common to previous instructions. This should prove helpful in determining the camouflage patterns and colors, a very contentious subject among late war Luftwaffe historians. The instructions identify proper stencil locations, completing the package. The diagram uses a Bf 109 G-6, which is considered representational for this type, though additional references should be consulted.
Microscale prints the decals over two pages. This includes markings for each individual aircraft and stencils. The decals are in perfect register. Carrier film is nearly invisible and I am confident they can be applied with little difficulty.
Luftwaffe subjects have proved to be popular among modelers and historians. While much has been learned recently, there is more to understand. If you want to apply well-researched decals, using the most current information available, I strongly recommend EagleCals. You may also wish to use some of their resin products from EagleParts to further accurize your Hasegawa Bf 109 K-4.
Review Sample Compliments of Eagle Editions.
