Eagle Editions has released another exciting set of 1/32nd scale Dora markings in their EagleCals product line. I am sure the intended kit is the new Hasegawa release, though it could also be adapted to the Revell and earlier Hasegawa molds.
Four interesting new Dora schemes are presented. The first is "Yellow 8", assigned to II./JG 26. This aircraft was previously identified as "Black 8". The aircraft is typical of 600 series Dora's with a camouflage pattern of RLM 76/82/83 and heavy spotted mottling on the fuselage.
The next aircraft is the Dora 9, "White 12" of II./JG 301. The undersurfaces are Blaugrun and natural metal. The upper surfaces display a pattern of RLM 83/81 The white rudder and Yellow/Red Reich Defense bands make a very interesting scheme.
The third aircraft is "Red 18", W.Nr. 211115, as assigned to I./Erg.KG(J). This group was tasked with training bomber pilots to fly fighters. This group's unique marking is applied over a RLM 76/75/83 pattern.
The final Dora was assigned to Stab II./JG 6. "Chevron Dot", W.Nr 211934, features a blown canopy and intact antennas. The aircraft is finished in an unusual scheme of RLM 76/75/81/83.
EagleCals instructions make for very interesting reading, especially for those with a keen interest in the Dora. Noted aviation artist, Tom Tullis, provides superb airbrush color profiles of each subject aircraft. They include left, top and bottom views. The top views are always helpful when determining the proper camouflage pattern. The text identifies a number of different features attributed to each aircraft, as well as proper RLM color use. Modelers and historians alike will enjoy viewing nine new Dora photos and captions. Common to other EagleCals instructions, references are identified. With this decal sheet, all references are made to photos included with the set, requiring no additional sources. The instructions are complete with stencil locations for the aircraft.
Microscale prints the markings over two pages. As with all decals from Eagle Editions, they appear to be in perfect register with minimal carrier film visible. Color saturation is excellent. Where necessary, multiple decals are used to complete a single marking.
Given Jerry Crandall's interest in the Dora, and his commitment to accuracy, I am confident in stating that these decals are among the best available. The partnership between Eagle Editions and Microscale is difficult to surpass. I recommend Eagle Editions EagleCals and their associated resin line, EagleParts, to anyone wanting to complete an accurate Dora.
Review Sample Compliments of Eagle Editions.
