Eagle Editions | EC126: 1/32 EagleCals Fw 190 Doras
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
Eagle Editions continues to broaden their 1/32nd scale decal line with the release of four new 1/32nd scale decal sheets. The primary reference material for these decals are all contained within Jerry Crandall´s latest book release on the Fw 190 Dora Volume Two. In all, Eagle Editions now provide us with 13 new sets of markings!
There are four aircraft included with this release. There is a mix of Fw 190 D-9 and D-13 variants:
- 1) Fw 190 D-9, 7./JG 26, Brown 4, W.Nr. 500647
- 2) Fw 190 D-9, 1./JG 26, White 13, W.Nr. 210982
- 3) Fw 190 D-13, Unit Unknown, Double Chevron, W.Nr. 836016
- 4) Fw 190 D-9, 1./JG 101 (?), White 52. W.Nr. 60####
Eagle Editions always provides detailed color and marking comments and this continues to be the case with EC#126. Pertinent features such as canopy type, upper gun cowl arrangements and other smaller details are all explained for each of the four aircraft. Note: The subtle variable differences between various Dora gun cowls as identified with these instructions are to be found in Jerry´s earlier Volume One on the Fw 190 D-9. Stencil diagrams depict the locations on the Fw 190D-9, the D-13 likely similar. Also included are color top and bottom views to ensure complete accuracy of your completed model.
The two page decals are printed in Italy by Cartograph. The markings are printed in perfect register and appear to be very thin with minimal carrier film. Complete stencils and national insignia are also supplied.
All but three of these marking are applicable to the Hasegawa kit out of the box, including the Fw 190 fitted with Ta 152 tail. The Fw 190 D-9 displays a significantly different nose profile to that of the D-13. Modelers will be required to purchase aftermarket resin sets to accurately depict one of the schemes provided. Look to Jerry Rutman and Montex for the appropriate conversions. Eagle Editions do provide the resin R4M rockets fitted to the wings of "White 52". Of course, those wishing to dress up their Doras can contact Eagle Editions to take advantage of their extensive resin line for the 1/32nd scale kit.
With four available markings choices, this new decal sheet from Eagle Editions represents great value for your dollar. Given Jerry´s lifetime of work detailing the Long Nose Dora´s you can be assured the research is the most current and up to date. I recommend these decals without hesitation. For those interested in further study, the two-part books from Eagle Editions detailing this important German late war aircraft are also a must for your reference library.
Review sample Compliments of Eagle Editions.
