Eagle Editions | EC125: 1/32 Fw 190 Doras
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
Eagle Editions continues to broaden their 1/32nd scale decal line with the release of four new 1/32nd scale decal sheets. The primary reference material for these decals are contained within Jerry Crandall´s superb book release on the Fw 190 Dora Volume Two. In all, Eagle Editions now provide us with 13 new sets of Long nose Dora markings!
There are four Fw 190D-9 variants included with this release:
- Fw 190D-9, Captured Russian Aircraft, W.Nr. 211##1
- Fw 190D-9, III./JG 2, Black 4, W.Nr. 400271
- Fw 190D-9, II./JG 301, White 16, W.Nr. Unknown
- Fw 190D-9, Unit Unknown, White 15, W.Nr. 600651
Eagle Editions always provides detailed color and marking comments and this continues to be the case with EC#125. Tom Tullis provides us with his magnificent airbrush side profiles. Pertinent features such as canopy type, upper gun cowl arrangements and other smaller details are all explained for each of the four aircraft. Note: The subtle variable differences between various Dora gun cowls as identified with these instructions are to be found in Jerry´s earlier Volume One on the Fw 190D-9. Stencil diagrams depict the locations on the Fw 190D-9. Also included are color top and bottom views to ensure complete accuracy of your completed model.
The two page decals are printed in Italy by Cartograph. The markings are printed in perfect register and appear to be very thin with minimal carrier film. Complete stencils and national insignia are also supplied.
These marking are applicable to the Hasegawa kit out of the box. Of course, those wishing to dress up their Doras can contact Eagle Editions to take advantage of their extensive resin line for the 1/32nd scale kit.
I am sure modelers will appreciate the esoteric marking of the Russian Fw 190D-9 and I applaud Eagle Editions for including them with this release. Given Jerry´s lifetime of work detailing the Long Nose Dora´s you can be assured the research is the most current and up to date. I recommend these decals without hesitation. For those interested in further study, the two-part books from Eagle Editions with Tom Tullis profiles are still available. However, inventory is getting low.
Review sample Compliments of Eagle Editions.
