Eagle Editions | EC104:1/32 P-47D Thunderbolt
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
Eagle Editions has just released comprehensive sets of 1/32nd scale P-47 decals. Designed for use with the new Hasegawa kit, this is a review of the first of four currently planned releases.
There are three P-47D options to choose from, each fitted with a bubbletop canopy:
- Chief Seattle, P-47D-28-RE, SN 44-19965, 362nd FG
- Big Ass Bird II, P-47D-30-RA, SN 44-32773, 406th FG
- Norma/Little Bunny/Helen, P-47D-30-RE, SN 44-20344, 57th FG
Like all decal sheets from Eagle Editions, the instructions are exhaustive. Setting this decal sheet apart from other companies is no less than eight photos of each of the three subject aircraft. This format allows the modeler to make there own camouflage and marking assumptions based on available photographic evidence.
The instructions list references should the modeler choose to further study these three aircraft. Also included are painting details and some features of each aircraft detailing prop and dorsal fin choices.
Tom Tullis created three stunning airbrush profiles for the instructions. They also include complete stencil placement details. Small templates are provided to mask off the artwork for Big Ass Bird II around the glare shield ahead of the canopy.
EagleCals decals continue to be printed by Microscale. They cover two pages and appear to be in perfect register.
Arguably, Republic's P-47 was decorated with some of the most colorful artwork applied to European based fighter aircraft. Eagle Editions is supplying some unique and colorful schemes that I am sure will entice any modeler with an interest in that theater of operations. I recommend this new decal sheet without reservation.
