MAW Decals | 32-MAW002: VMFA-122
Reviewed by Randy Bumgardner
As the follow-on release by Creighton Henthorn's MAW Decals to their initial 1/32nd scale offering, "Double-D", these decals meet any and all expectations set by the previous release. This sheet focuses on the color aircraft of VMFA-122, "The Crusaders", an F/A-18C, BuNo 164265. Like the previous sheet, another very colorful aircraft is presented for the modeler to depict.
The decals, printed by Microscale, are very thin and close cut. The colors are well done and in perfect registration. All of the relevant aircraft markings are present on the sheet. No stencil sheet is provided in this set, if the modeler chooses to use them, the aircraft stencils from the kit sheet should be used.
The color printed instructions are well done and very clear. There is no ambiguity about where the decals are to be placed. The instructions also call out where kit decals are to be used. Federal Standard reference numbers for the paints necessary to complete this scheme are supplied on the last page. Also included is a loadout matrix, which seems to be a commonly asked question on the various forums around the 'Net. It's a nice touch for the modeler wishing to display the correct mission loads for their Marine Bug.
All in all, these decals are an excellent second large scale offering from MAW. This scheme, when built, is sure to be a head-turner at any show, or in any display case. This sheet is recommended.
