Twobobs Aviation Graphics | 35-002: 1/35 AH-1W HMLA-169 Shark Mouth Viper
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
Twobobs Aviation Graphics has just released a new set of markings for the MRC/Academy AH-1W in 1/35th scale.
Markings are included for a single shark mouth Huey from HMLA-169. Decals are also provided on the same sheet in 1/48th scale.
The instructions include a single large photo of the subject helicopter supported by eight smaller thumbnail photos. Color profiles are also included showing the left, right and upper views. Complete painting instructions make reference to paints from Testors, Humbrol, Gunze Sangyo, Xtracolor and Xtracrylics. FS color chips are also included.
Modelers should note that this helicopter has received the latest NTS upgrade. For those wishing to know about this upgrade, the instructions provide complete details. Unfortunately the MRC/Academy kit doesn't include this new feature, as it represents an earlier variant. However, Twobobs indicate that an AH-1W NTS Upgrade set is available from Cobra Company. Look for Cobra Catalog Number 35009.
The decals are printed over two pages. They appear to maintain the usual high standards we have come to expect from Twobobs. I anticipate no difficulty with them.
I am sure that the "rotorheads" among will appreciate these new decals. It is unfortunate that they are provided in two separate scales. However, I am sure that many modelers will appreciate new decals for their helicopter kits, as the selection to date is rather limited.
