U.M.I. Resin | 1/32 scale Ki-43-1 Oscar (Early Version) Conversion
Reviewed by Chris Sherland
UMI's Early Version Oscar conversion backdates either the Revell or Hasegawa kits to a "dash one." The set includes the distinctive cowling the longer wing tips, a two-bladed propeller with spinner, and a set of two exhaust stubs all cast in tan resin.
Comprehensive instructions are included and special notes are included where the assembly and conversion differ slightly depending on whether the Revell to the Hasagawa kits was used as and base.
UMI's casting is not state of the art, but the masters are clearly well researched and nicely molded. Some slight bubbling was found on some of the parts, but a very small task of filling and sanding is all that stands in the way of this set being top notch. Regardless of the task at hand, UMI has provided a interesting subject for conversion and brought new life to the legions of 1/32 Oscars waiting to be built. This set opens up lots of marking possibilities for the broad wingspan Ki-43-1, and could be just the ticket to get that Revell or Hasegawa Oscar you have in your closet out on the bench.
Thanks to UMI for the review sample.
