Scale Aircraft Conversions | 32121: P-47D/N Landing Gear (Hasegawa/Eduard)
Reviewed by Ray Peterson
A recent release from Scale Aircraft Conversions is this new accessory set for the Hasegawa and/or Eduard 1/32nd P-47 kits. I am assuming the title has a typo in it: I think SAC meant "P-47D/M" not "P-47D/N" as only Trumpeter offers the -N and their gear is set up slightly different. Hasegawa offers the -M. Anyway, the set includes the main landing gear and tail gear as well as retraction arms and torque links.
This set is simply meant to be a direct replacement for the kit’s plastic landing gear, providing the modeler the option to go with white metal instead of plastic. While the casting is quite good, most of the details are unchanged and any defects of the kit parts, such as molding seams, are therefore replicated on the SAC gear.
I still am not happy with the softness of the alloy used. While the P-47 has pretty beefy gear, and the SAC gear is therefore pretty beefy and looks like it would hold up, the retraction parts are very spindly and bends easily (mine already has a bend as packaged). I am not sure the complete SAC gear will hold up and may be hard keeping straight. Also, clean up of seams will be difficult. The modeler may be better off using the kit parts for these smaller parts if they use the SAC gear.
Only Recommended if needed to replace broken kit parts.
Thanks to Scale Aircraft Conversions for the review set.
