Scale Aircraft Conversions | #32095 1/32 “Buddy Pod” Refueling Store for A-1, A-4, A-6, A-7

Reviewed by Ray Peterson

A recent release from Scale Aircraft Conversions is a bit of a departure for them: A D-704 “Buddy Pod.” This pod was used on several Navy aircraft to allow refueling from smaller aircraft.

This set is simply two parts: The resin pod and a small white metal prop for the pod nose. The resin and white metal are well cast, there is just the usual casting seam to clean up. Being white metal, the prop blades are easily bent to look even.

Also included is a small sheet of decals and a instruction sheet with color call-outs and decal layout. It does not show the plumbing from the plane to the tank, but there is a series of cast-in holes on the top of the tank. The resin is one solid piece, so I recommend using some solid wire to attach it to the model to help hold the weight. For more info, here is a link to a website with some photos: Tailspin Topics Blog . The SAC pod looks pretty accurate compared to the photos.

Recommended.

Thanks to Scale Aircraft Conversions for the review set.
