Master Model | AM-32-023: Spandau LMG 08/15
Reviewed by Kevin Williams
This is a pair of German WWI LMG 08/15 17.92mm Spandau machine gun assemblies, and are designed as direct replacements for what are sometimes the weak representations offered in traditional model kits. The use of these barrels and jackets enhances and better details out this often neglected area, offering up a better, more accurate appearance. Not a new product by a long shot, but I'd purchased them some time back for an Albatros I'm working on, so thought I'd go ahead and bang out a quickie review.
Widely used by German forces during WWI, the Spandau was a formidable weapon, and when used to good effect, was devastating.
Instructions
Pretty straightforward and uncomplicated here, with little need for elaboration on my part.
The Product
The delicate machining of these brass beauties is incredible, with cooling holes in bodies of jackets and ends of barrels hollowed out. Gun muzzles, while machined separately, are a slip fit to the barrel assemblies; incredible machine work. What else can I say about these intricately machined brass guns but...magnificent! (Definitely a nice addition to any 1:32 WWI German aircraft project that may require them, and are highly recommended.)
Photo-etched Details
Fronts and rears of both cooling jackets are presented here, as are a pair of sights and mounting/adjusting brackets. Special care will need to be taken to assure that front and rear of jacket bodies are properly aligned before gluing or soldering (ask me how I know this).
