Eagle Editions | EagleCals EC#161: F4U-1 Corsairs Part 1
Reviewed by Kevin Futter
The release of Tamiya's excellent series of 1/32 F4U Corsair kits has invigorated the market for aftermarket decals of the subject, and Eagle Editions has joined the fray with a new set called "F4U-1 Corsairs Part 1". These decals can of course also be used with the Trumpeter and Revell kits.
The decals themselves are supplied on two sheets, exquisitely printed by Cartograf:
One sheet contains all the national markings and some stencils, while the other sheet features the individual aircraft markings and some more stencilling.
The printing is crisp and clear, with both colour density and registration being perfect:
Decals are provided for the following four aircraft:
- Lt. Cdr. John "Tommy" Blackburn, VF-17, BuNo Unknown, Feb/Mar 1944
- Capt. Dean S Hartley Jr, VMF-225, BuNo Unknown, Aug 1944
- Maj. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, VMF-214, BuNo 18086, Nov 1943
- Lt. Robert Whiting, VMF-321, BuNo Unknown, Aug 1944
The instructions are full colour throughout, and carefully annotated with respect to each of the included schemes.
Conclusion
This is an excellent decal set, well-printed, and supported by excellent instructions. Each of these schemes is, predictably enough, quite similar to the others, but there's still enough variety on offer to provide plenty of interest. Highly recommended!
Thanks to Eagle Editions for the review sample.
