Eagle Editions | EagleCals EC#32-156: Erla Bf 109 G-10s
Reviewed by Kevin Futter
Revell's 1/32 scale Bf 109G-10 'Erla' kit was released in 2013, and Eagle Editions has now released a replacement decal set for it. The package contains two decals sheets, both superbly printed by Cartograf. Register and colour density are both excellent. The finish is glossy, and excess carrier film has been kept to an absolute minimum.
Note that the swastikas are each provided in two parts to comply with German law, and will have to be assembled on the model. The breakdown is slightly unusual, and not an approach I've seen before. It looks to be quite cleverly done.
The supplied booklet is also beautifully printed in full colour, and is actually a single fold-out sheet. Contained within are colour profiles with decal placement guides, a separate stencil placement guide, and a description of each aircraft depicted.
Decals are provided for the following five aircraft:
- "Red 1", 14./JG 301
- "White 22", 1./KG(j) 6
- "Red 7", 14./JG 301
- "White 44", 13./JG 301
- "White 36", 13./JG 301
The basic camouflage colours for these schemes consist of 74/75 over 76 undersides, but as ever with Luftwaffe schemes, there is plenty of scope for variation here, and each aircraft features colourful Reich defense bands. Any of these options will look quite attractive when built up.
Conclusion
This package is a worthy alternative to the kit-supplied decals, and provides some interesting schemes, any of which will result in quite a striking model. The quality of the decals themselves is beyond reproach, and I can highly recommend them.
Thanks to Eagle Editions for the review sample.
