Fantasy Printshop | FP 806: Prototype Ps

Reviewed by Kevin Futter

Fantasy Printshop is a UK-based decal producer that not only sells its own range of decals, but also provides the decals for other manufacturers such as Alley Cat and airscale.

One of the company's specialties is providing a range of utility decals, such as national markings and code lettering. Here we examine a small sheet containing 12 'prototype' markings, consisting of an uppercase orange P enclosed in a orange circle. These markings were used on British prototype aircraft, by their manufacturers, from late 1941 (though my limited research has failed to determine an end date for this practice).

The markings are provided in two sizes (30 inch and 36 inch diameter), and with two different styles of the letter P. The print quality is top-notch, with minimal carrier film and good colour density:

While it's hard to see a sheet like this falling into widespread use, for those of us looking to model prototype British aircraft in 1/32 scale, this decal sheet will be exactly what you need. Prototype Meteor anyone?

Thanks to Fantasy Printshop for the review sample. Please see the product page on their website for purchasing information.
