Scale Aircraft Conversions | #32076 B-17 Flying Fortress Landing Gear for the 1/32 HK Models Kit
Reviewed by Ray Peterson
A recent release from Scale Aircraft Conversions is this new accessory set for the new HK Models 1/32nd B-17 kit. The set includes the main landing gear and tail gear arm as well as a few smaller details.
This set is simply meant to be a direct replacement for the kit’s plastic landing gear, providing the modeler the option to go with white metal instead of plastic. While the casting is quite good, it is not as crisp as the kit parts and most of the details are unchanged and any defects of the kit parts, such as molding seams, are therefore replicated on the SAC gear.
I still am not happy with the softness of the alloy used. However, the B-17 gear is massive and therefore even this somewhat soft alloy is quite strong. I am sure the SAC gear will not bend over time, except unless the modeler adds a large load of heavy resin or white metal aftermarket to the kit. However, some of the smaller parts may be hard to use. Clean up of seams will be difficult, and the soft alloy will bend so easily it may be hard getting them to stay straight. The modeler may be better off using the kit parts for these smaller detail parts if they decide to use the SAC gear.
Recommended with some reservations.
Thanks to Scale Aircraft Conversions for the review set.
