Eagle Editions | Focke-Wulf 190A Tail Wheel
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
Eagle Editions has released a new 1/32nd scale tail wheel cast in resin for the Hasegawa Fw 190A.
The entire assembly is cast by Tiger Model Designs. It consists of five pieces and includes detailed installation instructions. The set includes a new wheel well interior, separate strut, drag link and tire. Modelers should note that this could also be used on early Dora variants.
Seven step instructions are included. Unfortunately the photos that accompany the text are overexposed. However, they still provide some assistance. The text is extensive and should be studied carefully. Some areas on the model do need to be removed facilitate installation. I am sure modelers with experience will have no difficulty with this task. No painting details are supplied.
The resin parts do exhibit some flash. This should be easy to clean up with a knife and sandpaper. Casting blocks also need to be carefully removed, as the parts look fragile. Eagle Editions state that the wheel strut can be installed at any length desired by the modeler. This feature accurately mirrors the real aircraft as the strut would move up or down depending upon weight or if the unit was worn.
The tail wheel is nicely cast with visible tread and hub detail. A hole needs to be drilled into the hub for attachment to the yoke.
The Hasegawa kit supplies a tail wheel that is molded into the yoke and suffers from poor detail. Overall this is a welcome addition from Eagle Editions and will enhance the look of the finished kit. My only concern is if the resin will support the model and stand up to long-term handling.
Review sample compliments of Eagle Editions.
