Contact Resine | 24003: Spitfire Mk Vb Wheels in 1/24th Scale
Reviewed by Mark Proulx
This is a review of the new resin wheels from Contact Resine for the Trumpeter Spitfire Mk Vb in 1/24th scale. These items are designed to replace the vinyl items included with the Trumpeter kit.
The set includes two mains and a single tail wheel. They are cast in tan resin and packaged in a small plastic container without instructions. The wheels are nicely cast with very sharp details. A tread is faintly visible on the tires and is not over exaggerated. The wheels are bulged and flattened. A prominent seam is visible around the circumference of the tires, but I am confident that it can be sanded off with a minimal amount of work. It appears that the hole for the axle may need to be deepened. Hub detail is perfect and compares favorably to photos published in Aero Detail books on the Spitfire. The tail wheel incorporates the same features as the mains being nicely detailed with bulged and flattened areas.
Many modelers are not satisfied with vinyl wheels. I am sure that these new items from Contact Resine will be a welcome addition to your 1/24th scale Spitfire. I recommend them without hesitation.
