Leading Edge Models | #32.81 1/32 Scale RCAF P-51D Part 2 Eastern Canada
Reviewed by Ron Patterson
This is part 2 of a series covering post war 1950’s era RCAF P-51D’s. This set focusing on Sqdns of Eastern Canada.
These RCAF P-51 schemes are some of the most colorful ever used on military P-51’s. Any one of these schemes would really brighten up the display case once completed.
This decal set provides markings for following RCAF Sqdns:
402 City of Winnipeg (two early schemes, a transition scheme and late scheme)
- 420 City of London
- 443 City of Hamilton
- Tactical Fighter Flight CJATC Rivers Manitoba
- Experimental Test of over All Natural Metal Finish - CJATC Rivers Manitoba
The set comes in 5 decal sheets that are in perfect register and excellent crisp bright colors. There are several well thought out features to the set including sufficient decals and stencils to build three complete airframes, aluminum roundel outlines for the red wing tipped airframes and three nicely molded resin spine radomes. Two versions of yellow decals are provided for the yellow/blue 402 Sqdn propeller spinner colors as well as black spiral decals for the 424 Sqdn yellow / black spinner, a nice touch making spinner painting much easier.
The 3 page instructions provide details on several specific airframes including history of nine specific airframes. It should be noted that several of these airframes will require cuffless Hamilton Standard propeller blades to be completely accurate.
I’ve used several of Leading Edge’s decal sets and found they react very well to Micro Sol and Micro Set conforming to all details nicely with absolutely no issues with silvering. They are highly recommended.
The set retails for $23.00 USD plus shipping and handling.
They can be ordered directly from Leading Edge Models website
