Hasegawa 1/32 Mitsubishi J2M Raiden
By Olivier Barles
Here are a few pictures of my Hasegawa 1/32 Mitsubishi J2M-3 "Raiden".
At last, no more need to do "the Hunt - unsuccessful so far! - for the Old Revell Kit" to build this plane at my favorite scale!
Easy building with a limited amount of extra work (undercarriage braking system pipes, a few cables in the cockpit, antenna wires, missing handles on the windscreen, control surfaces fixed in a dynamic look...), then an interesting painting time.
Not wishing go for the "yellow lightning" under the canopy, I chose to represent a plane from the 302nd Kokutai that probably had its cowling in aluminum color, like 2 areas behind the engine exhaust pipes.
I did enjoy the aging and weathering process to try getting a realistic look.
Those machines were painted with poor quality paintings and their servicing was more done in view of maintaining operational mechanics and weaponry at their best than cleaning and "paint touching up"...
I also decided this time to use the beautiful pilot Hasegawa provides.
I think it gives my Raiden a final "cool touch"...
Hope you'll enjoy,
Olivier
