Hasegawa 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4
By Kai Reckstadt
Here are some pics of my Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 Trop. depicting the aircraft flown by the famous German fighter-ace Hans-Joachim Marseille, the "Star of Africa". This is the Revell kit of the G-4 converted to an F-4 with the Aires conversion set. Some extra detailing was added to the cockpit, the wheel-wells and I also corrected the spinner (ovoid holes for the prop-blades). Decals came from Eagle Strike. They were very thin, in perfect register and easy to apply. The exhaust-strains were painted with Tamiya "Smoke". Weathering was done with oil-paints, pastell-chalk and MiG-pigments to achieve the look of an aircraft faded by the hot African sun.
