Hasegawa 1/32 Fw 190A-5
By Jerry Crandall
Here is the second Fw 190 A-5 I built in a few days to showcase our new EagleCals #83-32. This colorful A-5 was flown by Erich Hondt and was a special bomber killer version U/12. The model is not quite finished as we are waiting for our new resin parts that will supply the U/12 version that consists of twin MG 151 20 mm cannon pods that are placed under each wing. With this combination of heavy fire power it gives this version a very menacing and aggressive look.
The yellow band is somewhat speculative as some believe it was not applied to this aircraft. Computer analysis indicates that it did have this yellow band at this time, although there is some gray mottling over the portions that are visible in the photos. Note the use of EagleParts #53-32 the Fw 190 A-1 through A-6 wheel and tire upgrade.
The long red stripe is mentioned in a letter that Erich Hondt wrote to his parents during the war. This long red stripe decal has to be handled carefully so as not to break it when applying it to the fuselage. The all white tail section is indicative of a flight commander.
Again, thanks to Dr Ian Robertson for this great base!
