Converted to a D-11 from the Revell D-9 kit

This kit was from the "Lone Eagles" series by Revell. Besides the conversion, there are some areas that need attention like other 1/32 Revell kits. I still build Revell because they can turn out decent, and they cost less.

The kit actually has some strong points. I like the spinner, radiator, landing gear, wing gun bulges, and the canopy frame looks better too. There are some shape issues. The most noticeable to me was the rear of the fuselage needs to be squared with filler, it is too round shaped. The leading edge needs correcting, and the bottom of the engine cowl has to be widened at the wing roots so it tapers forward to the cowl flaps (This fix will also help with the wings L.E. problem).

I used the kit exhaust by hollowing out, and pinching to get the right shape. The four fuselage reinforcing strips were made from plastic sheet, and the trailing edge thinned with aileron edge corrected. After sanding all 1/8th scale rivets, and raised lines, I rescribed them and repositioned the flight controls. I had scratchbuilt the D-11 intake, cowl with engine mount bulges, and propeller, when I heard of J. Rutmans line of products. I was able to disassemble the wing, and incorporate his wheelwell and engine plug, along with his outer wing 30mm cannon set.I also used Eduard P.E. for the dash, headrest plate, canopy shelf, and exhaust deflector.

For paint, I used Aeromaster acrylics, and Alclad II for the under wing finish. The 61 numbers were taken from the Hase. D-9 sheet by switching the 16 around. The chevron had to be color matched to that weird white Hase. does on their decals onto clear film, then cut to size. The leading edge ones I did by hand, along with the werknumber. The exhaust stains were with pastel, and weathering was an overall acrylic/soap wash.

The canopy slides back and the "Human Hair" antenna drapes to the right by twisting it slightly before threading it through the two handmade eyelets.

Now I just have to finish that D-9 and Ta 152 I was supposed to be doing at the same time!
