Trumpeter 1/32 P-47D "Razorback"
By Don Quilantan
This is Trumpeter’s 1/32 Republic P-47D Thunderbolt "Razorback" fighter kit #02262. I was amazed by the level of details provided in this kit. Just about every type of ordinance that the P-47 could carry is included. There is also a choice of several complete propellers and radio antennae. This model was built to represent a P-47D-11 as flown by Francis Gabreski. The decals chosen for this build are Techmod #TCD32005A. The decals are beautifully rendered and went on without a hitch. I used the Eduard PE set # EDU32196 for the engine and Eduard #EDU32174 for the flap and aileron details. The Eduard EDU32174 PE set is designed to be used with the Hasegawa P-47D-25 but I modified it to fit the Razorback, there were no exterior PE sets available for the Trumpeter Razorback at the time of the build. Construction was very straight forward and I did not encounter any real obstacles. I highly recommend this kit to fans on the Thunderbolt.
Dress makers pins were used for the load stabilizers.
The blast tubes were made from aluminum tubing.
The tail wheel gear was also made from aluminum tubing to allow it to caster.
The cockpit interior is shown mid build. The only items added to the cockpit are Waldron's placards, decal instruments and a scratch built throttle. The glass for the rear view mirror is made from drink can aluminum
