Hobby Boss 1/32nd Spitfire Vb Trop, Converted to a Vc
By Thomas Lund
First of 2026!
I chose to build my Hobbyboss Mk V since I reasoned that I would never build it once a Kotare lands in my stash.
The kit was a Vb Trop while the aircraft in question is a Vc. Contemplating how to deal with that throughout the build I decided to use the wings from a Revell Mk IXc. I really don't know if that was easier than modifying the Hobbyboss Vb, but that was the route I chose. Revell gave correct armament, but wrong coolers and wrong wheel well bulge. For coolers I transplanted Hobbyboss'es while the wheel well bulge I 3D printed as the Hobbyboss one was terrible.
BR323 was originally destined for Africa and thus was painted in Dark Earth / Middlestone over Azure blue, but the Middlestone was overpainted with Extra Dark Sea Grey (according to my local Spitfire expert - a lot of opinions on that exist). Since it was not an original paint job, I chose to represent it rather worn as the massive use and sunlight at Malta would be hard on the paint.
This is another in my series of 'as many different nationalities as possible' builds.
