Kotare 1/32 Spitfire Mk I

By Denis Joseph

I’m really happy to present the latest one out of my workshop, the Kotare Spitfire Mk I.

I decided to depict a Spit flown by Free French Adjudant M. Choron, one of The Few, when he was with 64 Sqn. A video shows a few interesting features of this “SH-Q.”

You can clearly see that the fuselage roundels and the fin flash were painted in a much lighter blue than the usual “marking blue”. Also, the red center of the roundels is bigger than normal.

All this info was kindly shared with me by several members in this topic in the forums. Big thanks to them!

As for the Kotare Spit, it’s an outstanding kit. The way the parts are engineered and how the fuselage and wings go together is quite unusual. The cockpit detail is razor sharp and the only aftermarket I needed was a Quinta Studio Sutton harness. I also added Eduard wheels and exhaust stacks.

This Spitfire was painted with MRP paints after some black basing, and all the markings (code letters and roundels) were done with masks.

One last word about the Kotare decals, they’re absolutely spot on. The instruction booklet is extremely thorough, but it can be a bit confusing when you’re trying to find the paint color references.

For more on making this model, check out my build thread in the Work in Progress forum.

In the end, with a bit of work, you get a superb representation of this beautiful bird. Hope you like the model; I’m really looking forward to your comments and feedback.

See you soon for the next build!
