Italeri 1/32nd MC.202 Folgore
By Bogdan Zajączkowski

Here is my “slightly modified” 1/32 Italeri kit – backdated to a Serie III aircraft.
Work I have done includes:
- I’ve corrected some inaccurate panel lines – some shared across all 202 versions, while others were specific for Series I-III (e.g., I removed wing-mounted machine gun panels, certain inspection hatches, vent openings, etc.).
- The entire thing has been riveted.
- Completely incorrect rudder, elevators and ailerons have been replaced with 3D-printed parts from Aircraft in Pixels.
- The windscreen was lightly sanded down and polished to remove the armored glass, which was not present in early versions.
- The engine has been detailed using 3D-printed parts from Aircraft in Pixels and my own wiring and plumbing.
- The compressor air intake has been replaced with a 3D-printed part from Aircraft in Pixels.
- Some additional details have been added in the landing gear bays.
- Inaccurate and overly flattened wheels have been replaced with 3D-printed parts from Aircraft in Pixels.
- The entirely incorrect propeller spinner have been replaced with a 3D-printed part from Aircraft in Pixels.
- I’ve built an early-type tailwheel and an additional rear fairing.

Italeri made numerous mistakes when designing this kit, further complicated by an odd assembly layout and unintuitive construction sequence. I won’t describe all the errors – for that, I refer you to the very detailed review of the kit by Mr. Maurizio di Terlizzi.

The kit has been painted entirely with the excellent MRP paints. Some markings (like wing fasces) have been painted using stencils, while the rest were decals from various sets.
The entire process took 4 months. Without the excellent 3D parts from Aircraft in Pixels, this project wouldn’t have been possible.
I hope you like it. I’m off to start my next Macchi…
