Trumpeter 1/32 MiG-21 UM Mongol B
By Luc Janssen
When I happened to come across a picture of an abandoned Mongol of the former DDR, I got the idea to make such a diorama. Although I thought that it would be an easy job (after all it was an abandoned aircraft), it turned out to be difficult and time-consuming.
The Trumpeter kit is fair, but adjusting the fit of the wings, the stabilators and the fin is necessary. Some sanding and scribing of panel lines had to be done as well. In the cockpit I did not install the seats, but I added a lot of details. Unfortunately, this is barely to see on the finished model. On the landing gear additional detail was added and the compartment in front of the cockpit was detailed with all sorts of boxes, instruments and wiring. The intake and exhaust covers were built from scratch.
Accessories
A wheel chock came from Brengun Model Accessories (BRL 32003) and the grass for the base from TREEMENDUS.
Paints
I used paints from Humbrol, ModelMaster, Alclad and MODEL COLOR. Weathering was done with oil paints, colour pencils and pastel powders.
