Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk VIII

By Jan Goormans

Just finished another Tamiya Mk 8 Spitfire, from 81 Squadron not long after they arrived in India coming from the Mediterranean.

The Spitfires got a new top camouflage of a very dark green end a chocolate brown underway.

So weathering is not intensive, since I wanted to show the Spitfire with extended high altitude wingtips (used in Africa). And they replaced these with the normal wingtips soon after the first fights with the Japanese opponents.

I have used Montex masks (K32188) for the first time and it will not be the last time. You have to learn how to use it but it looks way better that decals.

Weathering the Undersides

The blue was done in several steps, like I always paint all the colors. It is a way to get some life in the color, for me it works better that trying to do that with weathering.
