Tamiya 1/32 Mk VIII Spitfire, RAAF 1945

By Craig Hartnett

A relatively quick one from me, pretty much straight out of the box except for the addition of the pilot figure, door, main wheels and Kagero decals. I'm challenging myself to be a better figure painter; still got a long way to go, but it's a start! I kind of like having someone in the cockpit too; just makes the thing seem more alive.

I normally don't have a problem with Tamiya decals (for the national markings) but this time nothing seemed to go right for me. I had to give up completely on the wing markings and ended up spraying those as no amount of setting solution wanted to make them behave. For those of you with a keen eye, this is the wrong tail number for this aircraft, only because I managed to stuff those decals up to the point of no return too!

Anyway, I feel I'm slowly getting better with the airbrush, and I had a go at using oil dot fading for the main colours which seemed to come out reasonably well, even if the camera doesn't really pick it up in the photos.
