September Fury Reno Racer
By Olivier Papon
Hello Race fans as they say back there in the Nevada desert where planes Fly low, Fly Fast an Turn Left !!!
Here's a Reno style Sea Fury: September Fury.
Fisher Models kit being not available anymore, I used a HobbyCraft regular sea fury as basis. I contacted Paul Fisher who provided me (for a very decent price) with some spare parts from its original kit for the modified parts (Engine cowl, exhaust pipes, prop, spinner, wheels and canopy) and I have to thank him for that.
Major modifications I did:
- Wings: removal of the radiator, gun bays and opening.
- I had to cut the entire front part of the fuselage to fit the new resin engine cowls with the air inlet of the cooling system
- replace the wheels, spinner and prop
- new vacuum canopy along with the modification of the fuselage around the cockpit area.
Lots and lots of putty and sanding.
Decals are from Drawdecals. They are nice but a bit too thick. The white parts are a bit to clear and you can see the red paint below so a white background is necessary.
I realized afterward I made a mistake because in the present camo with the white outer wings, the nose art was removed from the engine cowls...
