Trumpeter 1/32 Dauntless
By LSP Ron
This is my first attempt at the Trumpeter Dauntless kit. This is one of Trumpeter´s best kits, in fact it might just be their best kit. The overall fit was excellent requiring no filler and I believe it is rather accurate.
I used the Edwards cockpit detail set which really spruces up the cockpit area. I love building radial engines and this one was a joy to build. I made a placard for the crank case out of tin foil painted black then scribed with a pin for text. The engine was wired using brass "beading" wire. The crank case was painted RAF Ocean gray, the cylinders were painted flat aluminum. The whole engine received a wash of Tamiya flat black heavily thinned with Tamiya thinner.
For exterior paint I used Testors Model Masters Enamel FS 35164 Intermediate blue then did some post fading with the same mixed with flat white. The kit was then coated in Future and decaled used Yellow Wings Operation Torch markings. These decals reacted very well to MicoSol and MicroSet and settled right into all the details and contours nicely.
Weathering was done after a coat of flat clear using Paynes Gray artist oils thinned with turps as a panel line washes. The little bits were then added including the antenna which was made from clear stretched sprue.
