Revell 1/32 MiG-21PF
By Kevin Williams
Another effort that was cobbled together roughly fifteen years ago, but this time, slightly better documented. Not re-scribed, as was my usual practice; completely scratch built cockpit. Cockpit colors were blended from Gunze acrylics to approximate the blue/green I was seeing in photos and illustrations I had at the time of Russian cockpits. Extra details were added to wheel well area, as well as landing gear details, and included scratch built upper portion of nose gear. This one didn't seem to require as much weight added to nose to properly balance. Scratch built boarding ladder, shock cone cover, and tow bar were added to base to provide visual interest. I had also built a cart for an extra fuel tank, but didn't end up using it. (Please see Nose gear, Gear wells, Pit star, Pit port, Ladder and cone, Tow bar photos). Pilot figure is white metal, I can't seem to recall from whom; Valiant miniatures perhaps. Model was again painted with Model Master buffing as well as non buffing Metalizers. Next to nothing was done to weather this one, opting instead for a fairly pristine finish. Somehow, I managed to hang onto this one; it currently resides in my attic, where the temperature almost never gets above 150 degrees! I brought it downstairs to re-photograph some of the salient details using my spiffy new macro lenses specifically for this submission. (Please see Pit port fin, Pit star fin, Rear quarter, Burner, Pilot, Tow bar fin and Display photos.)
Presently wrapping up my OOB 1/32 Trumpeter A6M-2N "Rufe"; should be done in time for a local contest here in September.
