Trumpeter 1/24th Scale Fw 190D
By Martin Planes
I have been building for over 30 years and like most scale plastic modellers have lost count of all the different subjects and unmade squadrons I have collected. In the last two years I have exchanged over 100 1/48th scale kits ranging from the latest pro modeller offerings back to an old AMT Meteor! In their place I have started a collection of 1/24th scale and have not looked back. The age old problem for me like most of us was where do I put them once I have finished building. Since moving to bigger premises I have convinced the wife that the box room is now the 'Hanger' and have managed to acquire some very reasonably priced glass fronted cabinets which house my collection. This scale is so rewarding to work with and a standard fighter can take me anything up to two months to complete. I'm not a great one for super detailing although in this scale you really can let your hair down a bit. If you only build two or three I urge you to do it because the possibilities are endless. With the arrival of the wonderful Trumpeter kits I can only dream as to what is coming next. If I am allowed to dream how about a Curtis P-40 or a Chance-Vought Corsair and if we are going to really get carried away a Hawker Typhoon. They would be spectacular.
