I.D. Models 1/32 F7U Cutlass
By Larry Hawkins
This is the Navy's premier fighter from the '50s. the kit is from I.D. Models, as we all know, it's basic as all vacs are. The following was added to the kit.
- Main gear legs are from the Revell F-4 kit
- Nose gear was scratchbuilt with the main gear section from a Tamiya F-4D kit. Wheels and tires are from a 1/72nd kit
- Main wheels and tires are from a Revell F-15E
- Drop tanks are from the Hasegawa A-4 kit and modified to fit under the wings and I scratchbuilt the pylons
- Entrance ladder is from the MiG Killer kit
- Cockpit set is from CAM and the seats are from the CAM series for the F-104. Since there is no seat for most vacs as the kit type, the F-104 was close for the harness and detail
- Added a small antenna in front of the windscreen
- I added exhaust and cans in the tail per photos
- Decals came from sheets I have
- Stars are from an F-4 sheet
- The XF is peel and stick type vinyl letters
Radio equipment behind seat is from the Monogram P-51D kit.
