1/32 Tamiya Spitfire Mk.IXc Flown by Canadian Ace George "Buzz" Beurling

By Esteban Murador

With the outbreak of World War II, George “Buzz” Beurling was eager to join the RAF but, was rejected due to lack of education. By late spring of 1941, George Buerling finally saw some action under the RCAF under No. 41 Squadron in Sussex. His notorious example and behavior made his superiors doubt him as a fighter pilot. But, after volunteering to go overseas, Beurling was assigned to the No. 249 Squadron in the island of Malta. This is where George Beurling proved that he was a fine and fearsome fighter pilot. It was in Malta where George achieved most of his victories, claiming 27 enemy aircraft. Flight Lieutenant George Beurling was the highest scoring Canadian ace of WWII with 31 victories.

I used Tamiya’s fine 1/32 scale Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc as well as Barracuda’s aftermarket parts such as the cockpit, stencils, wheels and decals, to produce one of the two aircraft assigned to George Beurling during the winter of 1944. This is a great reprensentation of George Beurling’s Spitfire.
