Warbirds | Spitfire Aboukir Filter

Reviewed by Mark Proulx

Warbirds Productions has released a new conversion set for the Hasegawa Spitfire in 1/32nd scale. In this review we will have a closer look at their Aboukir Filter assembly.

The conversion set consists of two resin pieces. The resin parts represent the enlarged chin, which enclosed the larger oil tank and Aboukir filter housing. No instructions are included but are not required, due to the simple installation. The resin parts are crisply cast with no visible flaws. Surface detail and rivet patterns are all scribed. A small casting block will have to be removed from the filter. This is the only preparation work necessary as these pieces are direct replacements for the kits parts.

Warbirds accurately captures the look of the Aboukir filter. The entire installation will dramatically change the profile of your model. Examples of this arrangement can be seen on I. Gleed's Spitfire Mk Vb. This, and many other resin conversions are available from Warbirds UK. For those modelers that consider accuracy to be important in their models, I suggest giving Warbirds Productions a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
