21st Century Toys 1/18 F2G Super Corsair

By Ron Denning

This 1:18 scale F2G Super Corsair started life as a standard F4U from 21st Century toys. I cut off the nose and cowl, shaved down the turtle back to accept a bubble canopy. I extended the vertical stabilizer 12 inches to accept the scratch built auxiliary rudder. The four bladed propeller was scratch built out of two 3-bladers that I had. I obtained drawings of the Pratt & Whitney R-4360 radial engine and did a scratch built on it. The cylinders are individually cast in resin. The crank case and reduction gear case are fabricated from plastic stock. Each cylinder has two plugs and ignition harness. I also fabricated the air inlet manifolds and exhaust pipes. The cowl and cowl flaps are all scratch built.

Markings are from the Naval Aircraft Testing Center.
